Welcome to the Wisconsin Center for Nursing

The Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that was created in 2006 to engage nurse and healthcare organizations, public and private academic programs, government agencies, and related service providers to work together as collaborative partners in an effort to ensure an adequate, competent and diverse nursing workforce for the people of Wisconsin. Our mission is to critically assess and monitor nursing workforce and education trends and promote nursing career pathways with a focus on under-represented groups and leadership development.

Helsinki ICN Congress 2025 – Call for Abstracts

With the theme, Nursing power to change the world, the 30th ICN Congress will take place 9-13 June at the Messukeskus Expo & Convention Center in Helsinki. In 2025, the Congress will underscore the formidable influence wielded by nurses in shaping the landscape of health care delivery.

Abstract submission is reserved for members of ICN’s National Nurses Associations. ICN also encourages undergraduate student nurses to participate by submitting their abstracts.

Abstracts for an oral or e-poster presentation can be submitted from 2 August 2024 to 30 September 2024. For detailed information we invite you to visit the Congress website.

2024 Workplace Violence Webinar

Workplace violence (WPV) toward nurses continues to be a growing concern across health systems and other licensed facilities throughout Wisconsin.  The Wisconsin Nurses Association (WNA) has conducted a series of surveys over the past years and most recently the “2023 Workplace Violence Prevention Survey.” The 2023 survey assisted WNA in gaining a better understanding of workplace violence post-COVID-19 era and its impact on the nursing workforce.

Facts About Voting

  1. The United States is ranked 139th out of 172 countries in voter participation.
  2. The first election to use a voting machine was in 1892.
  3. George Washington blew his entire campaign budget on 160 gallons of liquor to serve to potential voters.
  4. It wasn’t until 1856 that Congress removed property ownership as a requirement to vote in elections.
  5. In 1845, Congress decided that voting day would be the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, which was after the fall harvest and before winter conditions made travel too difficult.
  6. The White House’s first website went online in October 1994 during President Bill Clinton’s administration.
  7. The 18th president of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, was given a $20 speeding ticket for riding his horse and buggy too fast down a street in Washington, D.C.
