MILWAUKEE, WI – The Wisconsin Center for Nursing is pleased to announce the release of the 2018-2019 Wisconsin Nursing Education and Nurse Faculty Survey report. The survey was sent to Wisconsin’s 39 nursing education institutions, with 37 schools completing the survey. The report provides essential information about the state of the nursing education workforce.
The Nursing Education and Nurse Faculty Survey is conducted by the Wisconsin Center for Nursing. A team led by Professor Linda Young from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, School of Nursing, conducted the survey and completed the analysis.
The report provides key information on the status of the nursing education workforce and highlights important demographic, education, and employment findings. Significant findings show a decline in nursing faculty, with increasing faculty vacancies, due mostly to non-competitive salaries.
Wisconsin is facing an impending workforce shortage. Based on the findings, implications for practice, education, and policy are highlighted. A key implication is that healthcare organizations, in partnership with schools of nursing and communities, should emphasize recruitment, retention, and succession planning for optimum RN utilization.
