DSPS, Madison Nursing Programs Announce Accelerate Wisconsin
Initiative provides pathway to faster entry into the nursing workforce
Madison College School of Nursing Dean Kerri Kliminski will welcome the deans from Madison’s other college nursing programs and Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) Secretary Dan Hereth on Wednesday to announce the DSPS Accelerate Wisconsin Initiative. Hereth will also present all three separate proclamations from Gov. Tony Evers, proclaiming it Nurses Week in Wisconsin, to representatives from the Universities of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the Wisconsin Technical College System.
Accelerate Wisconsin is an initiative encompassing new DSPS efforts to streamline the path to licensure in various professions, speeding up the transition from the classroom to job sites and hospital floors across Wisconsin. The department’s first Accelerate Wisconsin collaboration is an agreement with 14 nursing programs, at colleges and universities across Wisconsin, offering a pathway for approved students to take their required national nursing exam, the NCLEX, before graduation, allowing them to be licensed to practice in Wisconsin within three days of graduating.
Representatives from some of the nursing programs outside of Madison will also be in attendance, and Edgewood student and soon-to-be graduate Emma Wengmasser will be there representing the students taking advantage of this early testing opportunity this Spring.
DSPS Secretary Dan Hereth and the deans from Madison’s three nursing programs will explain how this collaboration benefits state nursing students like Emma and employers eager to hire them.
