On June 17, 2024, the AARP Center for Health Equity through NursingSM and the Campaign for Action hosted the webinar “Nurses Leading Change for Health Equity”. This webinar featured programs that received funding through the Health Equity and Nursing Innovations Fund, awarded by AARP and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The Wisconsin Action Coalition (WAC)/Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN) Health Equity innovation Project, “Strengthening a Statewide Volunteer Nurse Corp to Address the Needs of Vulnerable Populations During a Public Health Emergency”, was presented by Wisconsin Center for Nursing Innovation Team Leader, Kelly Kruse Nelles MS RN APRN-BC who described the project, discussed the outcomes and promising practices and lessons learned.
Aligned with the recommendations in the National Academy of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity, nurse leaders from each of the featured programs discussed promising solutions for addressing structural racism and inequity and improving access to care and services for those most disproportionately impacted by health disparities. WCN’s project aligned with The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Report Recommendation #8: Preparing Nurses to Respond to Disasters and Public Health Emergencies with health equity emergency preparedness training provided using the Nurses Respond Now Priority Training: Addressing the Needs of Vulnerable Populations During a Public Health Emergency.
